October 2006 Newsletter

Hello Everyone & Welcome to our October 2006 Newsletter

We are excited to announce that the Save our Parents and the Body Worlds Display Tour is scheduled to kick off the New Year in Boston and Phoenix.

Dates will be forthcoming.

As most of you know, this educational program (Body Worlds) attracts tens of thousands of participants of all ages in the cities it reaches.  The Body Worlds Display featuring our segment, the Save Our Parents Program was created and directed by the Foundation's Educational Director Dr. David Stein from Hahneman Hospital in Pennsylvania.  Participants will perform colonoscopies on fabricated colons; learning about the screening process and laparoscopic (removal of harmful tissue) techniques. Take home literature will be provided to all attendees. Together with added media coverage, we will continue to educate millions of people on the value and importance of early screening.

The Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Continues the Primary Care Physician Education Series:

This program has been an overwhelming success! Recently, we continued our expansion in Richmond, Virginia. 500 Physicians (out of over five thousand total targeted for our initial rollout), Primary Care Practitioners received education on Colon Cancer. This included the latest standards in prevention and screening, surgical options, oncology, and the importance of the PCP's role as the patient’s advocate even when a patient moves onto a specialist.

This program represents some of the most aggressive efforts in the fight against Colorectal Cancer to date. By reaching out to the Primary Care Physician we are educating and re-educating the first point of contact a patient will likely have. That contact not only provides the best opportunity to catch the disease early on, but also has the greatest impact in helping all of us eradicate this disease.

With your support and donations we look forward to expanding this program to over 25, ooo physicians in 2007Remember early detection is the key to prevention & survival from Colon Cancer.

Sharing, Caring & Surviving Colon Cancer Symposiums Continues to Reach Many:

Our Sharing Caring & Surviving Colon Cancer Symposiums in coordination with running a modified version of our Save Our Parents Programs on an event day has really proved to be a powerful duo. Recently, both of these venues reached into South Carolina and Puerto Rico with tremendous success and interest by all that participated.  As always, we send out a thank you to all of you who made these venues possible; especially our partner Olympus for our Save Our Parents Equipment.

The Symposiums, as discussed before, are a day for you; the patients and the families of Colon Cancer. It’s a venue to get all of your questions answered, bond with others, and meet the leading medical professionals in your area.  Keep yourself posted through our site when we will be reaching your town or city.

New Chapters:

In an effort to continue our expansion across the United States, we will be adding chapters in major markets in the Midwest and West Coast.  We will announce these in the coming weeks.  Please contact jody@coloncancerfoundation.org if interested in finding out how YOU can make a difference. Obviously, this will allow us to expand our grass roots programs and add a greater presence to spread the word on early detection and screening.
