JUNE
2010
Hello,
Susie’s Cause is very excited to announce that we have begun the
preliminary steps enhancing our industry leading website! We
have grown, reached more people and will reach many, many more
providing our followers with improved navigation tools and more
information.
Please help Susie's Cause improve our website by taking our
short survey. Your answers will help us continue our mission of
raising awareness about colon cancer screening, providing
information and support for those in need and serving as the
National voice of colon cancer. We are pleased to have Johns
Hopkins Carey Business School graduate student, Amy Getz-Steever,
who lost her mother to colon cancer, help us with this effort.
Thank you for your time and thank you Amy!

launching our Facebook Causes page in April for National

PART, and surpasses our 100 member goal we set in April!
There is still time to join and share our
Facebook Cause page and make a difference by inviting others
and making a donation directly to Susie’s Cause. We hope you all
enjoyed a Happy Memorial Day weekend, and we look forward to a

CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DIABETES AND COLORECTAL CANCER
Over 20 million people in the United States have type 2
diabetes, and that figure doesn’t even count the 6 million who
have diabetes and don’t know it yet. Type 2 diabetes has been
called the most challenging health problem of the 21st century.
The dangerously high prevalence of overweight and obesity is at
the heart of this problem. Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of
death in the United States, is the leading cause of blindness
and kidney failure in adults, and doubles the risk of heart
attack and stroke.[1]
Diabetes also increases the risk of several cancers, including
colorectal cancer. In my medical practice, we have documented
with consecutive case histories that superior nutrition and
exercise can reverse diabetes in 90% of patients, and this
aggressive nutritional approach is more effective and much safer
than conventional drug-centered care. The best diet for
preventing or reversing diabetes is also the best diet for
cancer protection.

The Colon Cancer Foundation was founded in 2004, and received
501(c) (3) status on January 19, 2005. The President of the
Foundation, David Rodman Cohan, an international business
attorney, vigorously launched this Foundation after the tragic
loss of his daughter Susan Cohan to colon cancer. Susan is
survived by her two young children.
The Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation will work to eliminate
colon cancer as a life threatening disease through the
development and dissemination of educational programs focused on
prevention, early screening and detection, and aggressive
therapeutic intervention.
