January 2008 Newsletter

Hello Everyone & Welcome to our January 2008 Newsletter

We are so thankful, excited, and hopeful as we begin what is sure to be our most impacting year in our battle against colon cancer.

We began our events in St. Louis with another Body Worlds /Save Our Parents program with thousands of men, women, and children learning about the value of early and consistent screening techniques and enjoying the opportunity to perform colonoscopies utilizing state of the art screening equipment provided by Olympus.

With the extraordinary support, once again, of Quidel Save Our Parents/Body Worlds will continue at the Maryland Science Center in downtown Baltimore.  This is a month long event in support and recognition of Colon Cancer Month.
Tens of thousands of tickets have been sold at this time.

We continue on with many local colon cancer screening educational events throughout North America leading us into another March Colon Cancer Month.

We invite you to join our support teams running in the ING Georgia Marathon/Half Marathon in Atlanta Georgia on March 30th.
There will be a chili dinner this weekend in Birmingham Alabama followed by a pasta dinner and pancake breakfast next week.  For more information, on these local events contact our corporate office, inquire online or check out local Comcast/CNN programming in your area.
We look forward to continuing the Save Our Parents Tour March 5 on the campus of the University of Arizona and either March 4 or March 6 on the campus of Arizona State University along with the Arizona Cancer Control Program a division of the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control.

March 13-15 Save Our Parents will be in Cincinnati, Ohio at the TriHealth Pavilion on 6200 Pfeiffer Rd. This is a free event conducted by Vantage Oncology.  For additional information about the event or for any cancer patients seeking assistance in that area contact Donna Pike of Vantage Oncology at 513 254 9625.

Many of you have inquired about our National race held in Baltimore Maryland every year.  This year’s event will be October 5th in Fells Point.  This year we are inviting survivors to take place and be honored in a special survivors ceremony.  Do to the size of this year’s event we are seeking volunteers now.  Please contact our National office for more details.

Remember to ask your doctor for the QuickVue® iFOB test.  A yearly fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is one of five screening options recommended by the American Cancer Society.  The FIT is arguably the least invasive test available. There are no dietary restrictions, requires only one stool sample, no more smearing stool onto a card with a wooden stick and has a higher analytical sensitivity which means the test is more likely to pick up small amounts of blood in the stool.

Colonoscopy Patient Preference Survey to be Launched on the Website by February 15th – Your Input Is NEEDED!
A major research university in Israel has been awarded a significant endowment to develop an innovative colonoscopy technology that may improve detection rates, increase patient comfort and address other patient preferences.  This university is seeking the input of at least 300 patients who have previously had at least one colonoscopy, or are scheduled for a colonoscopy within the next 30 days.  This information is critical to technology development.  The research entity will reward the first 300 individuals who meet the criteria, and complete the multiple choice survey of approximately 40 questions a $20 Amazon.com certificate or if desired, you can donate the $20 to the coloncancerfoundation.org.  The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and the information will be transmitted directly to the researchers committed to this worthwhile project.   Watch the HOME PAGE of our website for the link to the anonymous survey.

Your generosity will continue to enable our foundation to continue its mission to eradicate Colon Cancer as a life threatening disease.  Please visit the donations section of our website and help us to reach our goals.  For assistance please call our National headquarters at 410 244 1778.  As always, you can reach me at bobby@coloncancerfoundation.org.
