April 2006 Newsletter

Hello Everyone & Welcome to our April 2006 Newsletter

My name is Jody and I am Susan's sister. When I was asked to write this
Newsletter I was both honored and saddened. It's so hard for me to believe that Susan is no longer with us. I always thought that Susan would be a cancer survivor - we all did. I miss her so much each and every day.

Our family motto has become Susie saves another! Because of her, all of us have had colonoscopies. She saved my sister Kim and I, who both had pre cancerous polyps. In the past several months our cousin and Aunt had masses in their colon, which required life saving surgery. We have heard from many of you with similar experiences.

Susie's Cause has developed unique educational programs. One of which is Save Our Parents, created by Dr. David Stein, a leading colorectal surgeon from Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. We have presented Save Our Parents in many cities in the United States, Canada, and very soon Puerto Rico. The program allows high school and college students the opportunity to perform colonoscopies using state of the art equipment donated by Olympus and Pentax. We provide fabricated colons and our doctors walk the children through the process. The results of the program help children understand the importance of being screened at the recommended age and learn to look for symptoms at any age. Most importantly, the students are going home to their parents, grandparents, and other family members encouraging them to have a colonoscopy. It is so exciting and rewarding to see the children’s reactions and know that we are reaching thousands of parents per school and SAVING LIVES.

Comcast and CNN have featured the program wherever we go, reaching millions of viewers. One of which featured Susie's 8 year old daughter Demi who touched so many of your hearts when she spoke about how brave her mother was, and how her mother would always say,
“The heart is the only organ cancer cannot attack.”

We need your help! If you would like to start a chapter, support group or bring Save Our Parents to your local high school or college, please contact us at www.coloncancerfoundation.org, or me personally at jody@coloncancerfoundation.org

We always welcome your thoughts and support. If you or someone you know can help us financially or volunteer for Susie’s Cause, please let us know. Visit our Blog and write about your experiences to help other patients understand that they are not alone!  Thank You,

Warmest regards,
