A Special Thanks to Olympus for Donating their Equipment for the Save Our Parents Program
Olympus

A short time ago Susan Cohan Kasdas succumbed to a two year battle with colon cancer. Susan was forty two years old and left behind two beautiful children, a loving family and countless adoring friends. In recognition of her courage and dignity, the Susan Cohan Kasdas Colon Cancer Foundation was born. "Susie's Cause" will be the national and international voice for this horrible disease. Last year alone, over 56,000 people died of colon cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths of men and women in our society. The sad, but encouraging truth is that NO ONE HAS TO DIE. This disease is almost 100% curable when detected and treated early. Until now no one wanted to talk about it.

Save the Parents is a unique interactive educational program and mini medical school designed to give high school students information relating to healthy diet and lifestyle choices. The primary focus of the program is to provide students a thorough understanding of all aspects of colorectal cancer with the hopes of educating their parents on the benefits of colorectal cancer screening. The program consists of a brief didactic lecture on the anatomy and physiology of the colon as well as the incidence and treatment of colorectal cancer.

After the didactic session the students will have the opportunity to utilize state of the art equipment and perform cutting edge procedures. The students will walk through interactive stations which will teach them about colonoscopy and laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer. The children will have fun. We will stimulate their minds. Utilizing a "hands on" approach will destigmitize the concept of colonoscopy and colorectal cancer screening. The students will also learn about the benefits of fecal occult blood testing, digital rectal examination and the evolution of technology for colonoscopy.

Take home literature will be sent home with all students reaching thousands of parents per school. The result is an emotional contract between the students and their parents. We ask a lot of our children. Isn't the least we can do as parents, have a simple test to ensure our future with our loved ones? If you are forty years of age, have any history of colon cancer in your family, experience any stomach discomfort, bleeding, or sudden weight loss, please contact your physician today. If you do not have insurance, or your insurance does not cover the cost of then colonoscopy, please call our office today. Susie's Cause is proud to launch the "IT'S COOL TO HAVE A COLONOSCOPY" program because it's cool to have a long and healthy life with our children. State by state, the foundation will create a tradition of education and humanitarian efforts by setting an example for every school across the country to follow. We will dramatically increase colon cancer screening and save hundreds of thousands of lives in the United States and around the world.
