Plan an Event
We encourage you to give some thought to holding or participating in some type of event to publicize Susie's Cause mission. While this may seem daunting remember events span the spectrum of simple to complex. It could be something as simple as running in a local 5K race wearing a Susie's Cause shirt to holding a Gala with 300–400 people. Participating in an already established event either individually or with a team and soliciting contributions is a great way to raise money while getting the message out.
Here are some ideas our supporters have done recently.
Three Dudes in a Canoe
Starting July 27, 2010 the Moore brothers raced 340 miles to raise awareness about preventing colon cancer. The idea for the 3 Dudes in a Canoe team was started when three brothers lost their beloved mother to colon cancer in 2007. They paddled to raise money for Susie Cause in her honor. This is an annual event in their community and they plan to enter again this year.
Hockaday High School Kick Out Cancer Classic
In Dallas the Lady Scots Soccer Team from Highland Park High School held a Kick Out Cancer Classic against rival JJ Pearce. They solicited contributions from family, friends and supporters and raised over $11000 for Susan Komen Foundation, the Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma foundation.
Manhattan College Swim-a-Thon
The Jaspers of Manhattan College held a Swim-a-thon in the Bronx, NY. Twenty student-athletes decided to pick Susie's Cause in honor of a team member's father, who was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Through friends and family, the Jaspers raised $1,200 for the event.
Create Your Own Fundraising Page
Susie's Cause wants your fundraising efforts to be as fun, easy, and as successful as possible so we have joined FirstGiving.com to give our supporters the ability to create their own fundraising pages. We have found this to be a very effective way to fundraise at the grassroots level. You can take just about any hobby or event and turn it into an online fundraiser. Take a look at our profile page on FirstGiving.com. Scroll down and you can see how our wonderful supporters are using this tool in their own creative ways. Click on the Start Fundraising button and you are on your way. FirstGiving.com is a menu driven platform that walks you through the process step by step to create your page. Once built, you can use your page to tell your story, add photos and videos, and track donations on the way to your goal. You can also create your own events and set up teams for competitive group fundraising. Your page will always be validated by the Susie's Cause logo and banner and secured through FirstGiving.com's donation platform. Donations are sent to FirstGiving.com and then forwarded to Susie's Cause. It's safe, secure and easy.
