Health Festival with Bon Secours Hospital

Saturday April 30,2011
11:00 am - 4:00 pm

We are very proud to announce the tremendous success of the first stop of our National Health Festival for the under served presented in collaboration with Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, St. Joseph Medical Center – The Cancer Institute and Operation Reachout Southwest (OROSW). Hundreds of members of the community enjoyed a day of education on topics including healthy living, cooking, health services, and education on screening and cancer prevention. Many took advantage of the opportunity to get screenings for blood pressure, heart rate and other services conducted by our partner health institutions. Attendees enjoyed healthy food and drinks along with wonderful music provided by a showcase of 10 community choirs from Baltimore City.

Joining us for the day were leading health professionals representing leading medical institutions in the area. We were also very pleased to have Quidel Senior Director Dave Trout spend the day with us. Quidel supplied information on their at home test products for colon cancer screening. We want to especially thank Reverend Lee Michaels, host of “Grace and Glory” Sunday mornings on WMAR-TV, who did a fantastic job as emcee for the event. Eating healthy was reinforced by our friends from Jala Frozen Yogurt who provided their all natural yogurt bars that are rich in antioxidants and probiotics. “Colon cancer falls especially hard on underserved communities and we need to get the message out about how to prevent and treat it,” said David Cohan, president of Susie’s Cause. “We’re fortunate to have the support of Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, St. Joseph Medical Center – The Cancer Institute and OROSW to share important information on colon cancer risks and methods of screening and prevention with the West Baltimore community.” Susie’s Cause is working to bring this type of event to other under served communities across the country.
